Barco

Kortrijk, Belgium, 29 October 2009. Barco, a global leader in LED technology, is proud to announce another milestone in the Middle East, its sixth LED installation on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island together with Aldar Properties. This weekend Barco LED displays will show spectators live action at the first ever Abu Dhabi Etihad Airways grand prix and in the runup to the grand prix Barco announces a contract to install LED at the world's largest indoor theme park. To signify the importance of this deal, His Royal Highness Prince Philippe of Belgium attended the official signing ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

The new LED project will be installed in Ferrari World, the world's largest indoor theme park. The park, currently being built on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island, will have room for over twenty rides and attractions, including the world's fastest rollercoaster. Yas Island will have its first major public event on 1 November 2009, with the F1 season finale on the brand new Formula 1 race circuit, where visitors can see fourteen outdoor Barco LED displays in full splendor.

“We are proud to close another deal with Barco,” comments Mohammed Al Mubarak, chief commercial officer of Aldar Properties. “Our goal is to finalize our projects with the highest standards possible and the Barco LED equipment fits perfectly in our plans.”

Nico Vernieuwe, Barco VP EMEA, adds, “the Middle East is a booming region. This new deal again confirms the excellent reputation Barco has in the field of fixed LED installations. We have worked with Aldar Properties on many other projects and are looking forward to a bright future in the Middle East.”

Aldar Properties is Abu Dhabi's leading property development company. One of its flagship developments is Yas Island, a 25km˛ manmade island. When completed, Yas Island will become one of the world's largest and most exciting retail and leisure destinations. Construction began in 2007 and the first phase of the development will be completed before the end of 2009. The island will play host to exclusive theme parks, hotels and numerous attractions, such as this brand new world-class racing circuit.
