With Barco projectors serving as fundamental components of Cubic's advanced military marksmanship trainers, this key delivery milestone underscores the dynamic technology partnership between the two companies. Xenia, OH — 10 December 2009 — Barco, a preferred visualization partner in the training and simulation industry, is proud to announce that it has delivered over one thousand projectors to Cubic Simulation Systems Inc., a defense unit of the Cubic Corporation based in Orlando, Florida. The decade-long partnership between Barco and Cubic is built on the principles of providing high-quality, high-reliability and cost-effective visualization technology over the long term.
Barco's high-fidelity iQ and iD series projectors are used in Cubic's Engagement Skills Trainer 2000 (EST 2000) and Warrior Skills Trainer (WST). The EST 2000 is a virtual training device that allows soldiers to learn marksmanship skills, judgment skills, and squad-level collective training. The system is the U.S. Army's only validated marksmanship trainer that can replicate every type of small arms that soldiers use today. Cubic's EST+ which offers additional capability to the EST 2000 system, providing dismounted vehicle weapons skills training.
“Cubic has been very pleased with Barco products,” said Pat Morello, Cubic's Program Director. “They deliver quality projectors with long-term stability, and that fact continues to provide value to our customers. With Barco projection inside our EST 2000 and WST marksmanship trainers, we're helping our customers develop their skills in highly-realistic training scenarios.”
Committed to the development of robust products for military applications, Barco has continuously met Cubic's projection requirements over the past ten years — using only three different projector models. Starting with CRT-based projection, Cubic later transitioned to digital projection in order to improve overall technical performance and operating costs. This move included compact LCD projectors, and more recently, single-chip DLP projectors. As an important advantage, the transition between the latter two models meant that changes in appearance, lens, footprint or projector control were not required. The latest projector, the LR-6 provides yet another improvement in image quality, operational cost, and supportability, all with no change in procedures or structure and no need for additional training for Cubic or its customers.
“From the inception of the EST 2000 program, Barco has had an excellent relationship with Cubic,” said Phil Laney, Barco's Market Development Manager for Simulation, “and this milestone truly emphasizes that partnership. Where component commonality is critical, we understand the importance of long product lifetimes and support as a major consideration for integrators that produce large number of systems.”
